Pictures from Gila National Forest and day 3.

On day 3, we headed to Gila National Forest and the Cliff Dwellers.

The dwellings were built about 1270 AD.

The drive from the national monument (purple color on the map) to Silver City was interesting, to say the least. A narrow road, with no guide rails that was about 1 & 3/4 lanes wide. However, our most terrifying drive was yet to come.

Pinos Altos is an old mining town, the home of Judge Roy Bean.

Silver City was interesting. Not as quaint as we had hoped. I would characterize it as a Santa Fe wanna be - a failing tourist trap. Our B&B was the historic Palace Hotel built in 1882.

Billy The Kid was raised and committed his first crimes in Silver City (fun facts to know and tell).
