Mission of the Animal Behavior Institute (ABI)

Our mission is to improve animal welfare by promoting a greater understanding of animals' behavioral and physical needs and by strengthening the human-animal bond. We help to achieve that goal by providing affordable, quality education and training in the field of applied animal behavior and husbandry. We design, develop, and deliver online courses in animal behavior and related subject areas.

Philosophy and Values

  1. Our fundamental aim is to promote an improved understanding of animals’ behavioral needs. This understanding will lead to improved relationships between humans and animals, for both animal professionals and individual pet owners.

  2. All animals deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. We address this value by helping to insure that human professionals using animals are properly trained and knowledgeable.

  3. Our students also deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. Students should have more than one opportunity to demonstrate mastery in a subject area and must have access to ongoing professional assistance.

  4. We have a mutual obligation, along with similar organizations, to share information on animal care and to support research and public education to improve the quality of life for captive animals.
