Continuing Education Accreditation & Approval

The Animal Behavior Institute, Inc. is proud to announce that the following courses have been reviewed and approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards' Registry of Approved Continuing Education. These courses are pre-approved for use as continuing education credits for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. (ABI provider number = 238)

  • ABI 126 Animal Minds & Emotions
  • ABI 211 Animal Assisted Therapy
  • ABI 331 Animal Behavior
  • ABI 222 Animal Enrichment
  • ABI 233 Animal Training
  • ABI 232 The Human-Animal Bond

Each of these courses meets the requirements for 30 hours of continuing education credit in all jurisdictions that recognize AAVSB's RACE approval; however, participants should be aware that some boards have limitation on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions of certain methods of delivery of continuing education.

The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) has also pre-approved the Animal Training program at the Animal Behavior Institute for CPDT Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The CCPDT is an international testing and certification program for professional pet dog trainers.

In addition, ABI programs are listed with the Delta Society (a nonprofit organization dedicated to service and therapy animals), and with the Center for Respect for Life and Environment. We publish articles on animal behavior, training and education such as this example from Lab Animal.

Accreditation is a voluntary process, for both degree-granting institutions and professional schools offering continuing education. While we are formally approved as a continuing education provider for veterinarians/vet techs, other professional associations will also accept ABI courses for continuing education credits. Check with your own association (counseling, nursing, behavioral organizations, etc.) if you will be using our courses for licensing or continuing education credit.
