We emphasize a broad approach to training in our certificate program, preparing students to take their animals beyond mere obedience. Training and enrichment are critical in many fields, examples of our students' backgrounds include:
-
The manager of a doggie-day care facility that wants to offer broader training and enrichment options to her clients.
-
A lab technician training for a position in her company that will focus on animal behavior.
-
A zookeeper seeking more responsibilities and ultimately promotion to lead-keeper.
-
The owner of a private wildlife education company building a training & enrichment program to obtain national certification.
The field of behavioral enrichment is particularly important in the captive management of wildlife and animals in restricted environments. It is a newly emerging specialty in the field of laboratory animal science as well. Our certificate programs provide continuing education credit in many disciplines and are an excellent compliment to a bachelor of science degree in the life sciences. Our certificate consists of a 15 credit program in behavior, training, enrichment, animal minds & emotions, and the human-animal bond.
