Dr. Campbell is an instructor in our Zoo & Aquarium Science program that began in 2006.
Dr. Campbell began working with wildlife and exotic animals while in college. After graduating with a degree in Biology, she worked with elephants, big cats, hoof stock, and birds at Kings Dominion’s Wild Animal Park in Doswell, VA. She then traveled, working with caribou and moose in Alaska, red wolves in North Carolina, and the North Atlantic right whale in Maine before settling in Durham NC to work at the Duke University Lemur Center, a captive facility devoted to lemur studies and conservation.
Her experiences working with the lemurs and their diet needs led her to pursue a doctoral degree in nutrition. She has since taught at North Carolina State University and an undergraduate college where she helped initiate a four year degree program in Zoo Science. She and her family live in Durham, NC with their two dogs, Kylie and Bailey. Kylie, an Australian Cattle Dog, excels at Frisbee while Bailey’s main hobby is finding the most comfortable spot on the couch.
